Paper Party Wreath

We found this adorable paper wreath project from Bloesem Kids and decided to modify it a touch using 8 x 8 inch scrapbooking papers. Hang this wreath on your front door for your next party, so that your guests know they’re in the right place!

Here’s what you need
Cardboard (from an old shipping box)
Patterned & Colorful Papers (we’re using Sparky & Marie Isabelle 8 x 8 inch scrapbooking paper by Trimcraft)
Yarn or Ribbon
Scissors
Tape

Step One
Cut your wreath form from cardboard to your desired size. I used a compass to help me draw my shape.

Step Two
Cut your papers into 1″ strips (you may also vary the width of your strips).

Step Three
One by one, tape your strips onto the backside of your cardboard form making sure to create an arc with your strip, so that the finished wreath has some dimension. In other words, make sure to not tape the strip flush to the cardboard form.

Step Four
You can adorn your wreath with a sweet little message banner indicating the title for your special event (ex. Happy Easter).

Step Five
Cut a generous piece of pretty ribbon or scrumptious yarn. Fold in half and tape or glue to the backside of your wreath for hanging.

Voila!

Thank you for joining us. It’s now time to hop on over to Dena Designs!

Crafty Idea: Happy Tape Votive

There’s a vendor at the Larchmont Village Farmer’s Market (Los Angeles) that sells lovely scented soy candles for $10 (The Farmer’s Market Candle). The candle container is a simple glass votive, and if you are like me and love candles, you’ll end up with a loads of empty glass containers around the house. Instead of trashing the containers after I’ve burned through the candles, I like to repurpose them.

In this project, I used strips of my beloved Happy Tape, to decorate the outside of the empty glass votive. Before applying tape, I used Goo Gone, soap, water and glass cleaner (not all at the same time) to get the glass sparkling clean.

It’s a super easy project, and you can fill these containers with pens and pencils, votive candles, flowers, etc.

Happy Friday!

Crafty Idea: Recycled Wooden Tea Box

I’ve had this empty tea box sitting around my kitchen for some time now. Recently, I decided it was time to either trash or repurpose it. The repurposing idea was the winner (as you can see)! Using scissors, scraps of decorative paper and Mod Podge Hard Coat (specifically for use on wood, glass, paper mache, and terra cotta), I worked this simple box into something a bit more special.

This revamped container might end up back in my kitchen, but at least it’s sporting a fun new outfit!

Happy Friday : )

Crafty Ideas: Paper Collage Binder

This is a super easy little craft project. My 5 1/2 year old neighbor and I sat down last weekend and decorated our own 2″ chipboard binders with leftover paper scraps and Mod Podge. My neighbor will use his to store all of his 1st grade art projects. I haven’t figured out whether I’m going to use mine to store inspirational tidbits, or instructional manuals for my household appliances.

Here’s what you need:
Chipboard 2″ Binder from ReBinder
Mod Podge
Foam Brush
Paper Scraps

This would be a super fun craft at a b-day party for girls, especially since ReBinder requires minimums for ordering binders.

Have a wonder filled weekend!

Crafty Ideas: Paper Wreath

I had some fun with paper this past weekend. Following THIS simple tutorial from Fiskars, I constructed my own paper wreath from old book pages. In case you need to know, I used the Diamond Border Punch.

Happy Friday!

Crafty Ideas: Stamping on Flour Sack Towels

As you may know, I had some rubber stamps made from a few bits of Sparky & Marie artwork. This particular birdie came from our Twiggy Print Collection.

Step No. 1
I plucked little Twiggy bird from the print & pattern and sent him off to the rubber stamp maker.

Step No. 2
He came back all rubbery and perfect!

Step No. 3
I followed THIS tutorial for stamping on fabric. My friend Kathryn Murray posted a link to the tutorial on her Facebook page about a month ago, which is what gave me the idea.

Here’s a list of the supplies that I used:
Flour sack towel (Aunt Martha’s from Amazon)
Sunshine Yellow & Marine Blue Fabric Paint
Twiggy Rubber Stamp
a Brayer
a piece of glass from an old picture frame or a paper plate

Too bad I didn’t think to purchase red fabric paint! I could’ve done red and blue in celebration of Independence Day. In any case, have a happy and safe 4th!

Rubber Stamp Arrival!

Woo wee! Rubber stamps have arrived from stamp maker. I had all 4 stamps made at a local shop called Hollywood Rubber Stamp Co.. When I have time to start stamping up a storm, I will be sure to share. Hopefully, this weekend.

Happy Friday!

Paper Garland – The Sequel

Finally had the chance to make some paper garland this past weekend. Check out details on our guest post at Neatloaf!

Crafty Ideas: Custom Rubber Stamps

I’m sending off some Sparky & Marie artwork to be made into rubber stamps for various crafty stamp projects (ex. stamp on kraft rolls of paper for pretty gifts, stamp on white flour sack towels for neat-o kitchen towels, etc.). Here’s one of the designs that I’m going to start with. Hopefully, I’ll have these back before next Friday, so that I can squeeze out a project and share it with you!

Happy weekend!

Crafty Ideas: Paper Garland

I sure do have a thing for paper garland. Mini-Eco, which is one of my favorite blogs for kiddie craft ideas, has a great tutorial on how to make sewn paper garland. You might also enjoy THIS tutorial from By Petra on butterfly garland.

We have a busy weekend ahead of us, and if I have any extra time on my hands, there will be a paper garland explosion in my apartment! Great for gift wrapping, party decor, and home decor.
